After an exciting group stage, we have reached the knockouts of the 2022 World Cup. Sixteen teams will now battle for the coveted trophy in Qatar and you can enjoy all the action by watching the World Cup live.
No team managed to win all of their three games but Brazil, Portugal and France guaranteed their place in the round of 16 before playing their final matches. The Selecao eased past Serbia in the opener before prevailing over Switzerland thanks to a late Casemiro goal. Tite featured a heavily changed lineup against Cameroon and fell to a 1-0 defeat with Vincent Aboubakar scoring the injury-time winner.
Defending champions France made a spectacular start in Qatar, thrashing Australia 4-1 in their opening game. Les Bleus ensured their place in the knockouts after edging Denmark with a 2-1 win but failed to maintain their perfect record with Tunisia beating them in the final game.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal triumphed over Ghana and Uruguay to secure an early qualification before losing against South Korea.
Meanwhile, the World Cup journeys of Germany, Belgium and Uruguay came to an early end in what was the biggest shocks in the tournament. Hansi Flick’s side were stunned by Japan with a 2-1 loss in their first match, and though they secured a draw against Spain and won over Costa Rica, it proved to be insufficient for them in the end.
There were also high hopes on Belgium when they registered a 1-0 victory over Canada. However, the Red Devils took a beating at the hands of Morocco and also suffered a disappointing goalless draw against Croatia to exit the tournament.
Meanwhile, Uruguay failed to win their first two group matches and despite a 2-0 win over Ghana, they suffered an early elimination from the World Cup.
