Is the Chanel Price Increase 2023 Happening Soon?

Few things stress out brand aficionados more than the words “price increase.” In fact, the mere idea of a price increase often sends customers into a shopping frenzy, calling their sales associates to purchase the items on their list before the new prices take hold.

In the past week or two, the members of PurseForum have been tracking changes to Chanel.com that, in the past, had indicated that a price increase was imminent.

So, is there another Chanel price increase in 2023 happening soon?

Increases In The Past Years

One reason many believe a price increase at Chanel will happen this month is that, historically, over the past few years, Chanel had upped its prices on bags in January.

Last January, the 2022 Chanel price increase saw an average 9% increase across many of the classics and other designs. In Europe, August 2022 is when the price increase took place.

Rewind to 2021, and prices skyrocketed across the board with not one, not two, but three increases that shocked consumers.

The First Confirmed Price Change

Thanks to very astute members of the forum, we have screenshots of one bag style that has already been marked up as of this week. A TPF member shared that this Chanel Denim Mini Flap was priced at $4,500. A couple days ago, the price was gone, and just this morning it was updated to $4,900, an 8.9% increase.

This could mean that seasonal pieces are increasing and classics may be left alone, but it could also mean new prices may be coming across the board soon.

Early Signs Of An Impending Increase

Many times before an increase, Chanel removes prices off e-commerce landing pages for its bags and in its place says “price upon request.”

This has typically been a reliable tell from the brand that new prices were looming. What is different now is that no one has reported concrete rumors from their sales associates, and with countless VIP shoppers on our forum who have very close relationships with the brand, we usually hear about the increase there first (join the Chanel Price Increase thread on tPF for the latest).

Though it is merely a rumor, with past price increases happening yearly (if not more than once per year), it is easy to assume that we are due for another increase soon.
