Mikel Arteta’s side are reportedly eyeing a move for Manchester City star Joao Cancelo in the upcoming summer transfer window in today’s big Arsenal news.
The 29-year-old is currently on loan at Barcelona after his fallout with City boss Pep Guardiola last season.
He has been impressive with his performances for the Catalans this campaign, making 24 La Liga appearances and scoring two goals.
The Spanish giants are very keen to retain his services beyond the summer but their financial issues are a big hindrance for them.
Now Barcelona have suffered another blow as Arsenal have joined the race for Cancelo, per SPORT.
The Gunners currently have Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu for the right-back position, while Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jakub Kiwior are the options at left-back.
However, Cancelo who is adept at operating on either flank will be a significant upgrade on all of the above players.
The 29-year-old boasts a lot of experience at the top level of football, and is highly rated for his passing, dribbling and tackling ability.
He has a contract at the Etihad Stadium until 2027 but his chances of returning to City are said to be very slim.
The Premier League champions are looking for a permanent sale of Cancelo in the summer window.
Therefore, Arsenal are more likely to secure his services than Barcelona who are currently dealing with many financial problems.
