7 Ways To Stay Healthy During The Holidays

Stay in a routine: The holidays are a time that routines seem to be thrown out the window but we really try to stay in as much of a routine as possible. Everyone in my house just does better on routine! I still get up early and work out, kids go to bed at their normal bedtime, and we still try to eat healthy most of the time. Of course, we mix in some holiday treats too!

Include greens in meals: This is the time to load up on your veggies. More green smoothies, and putting veggies in muffins, pastas, etc. Thankfully my kids love veggies so this is more for me!

Make sure to get enough sleep: This one is hard. I feel like with all the get-togethers this year since we didn’t have many last year it’s more late nights. I try really hard to not have late-night plans during the week and if I do then I try to be home more on the weekends. I strive really hard for 8 hours of sleep.

Designate 1-2 nights a week for alcohol and abstain the rest: This is actually something I started a couple of months ago. I really try to stick to only having alcohol on weekends and not drinking during the week. Then if I have something during the week where I have a glass of wine or a cocktail I skip a weekend night. I feel like I just feel better and sleep better.

Up your water intake: Just like having more veggies, having more water is key! Even if you need to set phone reminders do not forget to drink water!

Get up early and workout: Since the days and nights can get busy it’s a great time to become a morning workout person. I prefer morning workouts and during the holidays with school events, and stuff going on at nights I feel like it’s so great knowing that part of my day is done and dusted!

It’s OK to say no: People ask so much of us during this time of year. I know for me, work and my family come first, and if that means saying no more then that’s just what I have to do. Do not be afraid to say no to plans.
