5 year old male Ibizan Hound (Podenco) Cross available for adoption

Ziggy is a 5 year old male Ibizan Hound (Podenco) Cross. This beautiful boy has sadly not had the best life – a hunting dog, abandoned at the pound, with very little chance of escape, due to the amount of similar dogs at this particular pound in Cadiz.

His luck changed when our team saw him one day, sitting sadly by himself in the corner of a kennel run; we reserved him, placed him in private kennels and then into an experienced foster home where he was assessed. We finally found a home for Ziggy with a lovely couple in Suffolk who had previously rescued a dog from us.

Unfortunately, his problems over the last months, have become too much for them to cope with, and Ziggy is sadly now looking for a new home. His adopters have tried their best to work through his issues with him and this has been a very difficult decision for them to make but we have all come to the conclusion that Ziggy doesn’t just need time, he actually needs a completely different environment to thrive.

While we will do anything to make sure that a dog stays in an adoptive home, we also have to bear in mind that some dogs do just need a different type of lifestyle and this is the situation with Ziggy.

Ziggy is a lovely funny dog, he gets on well with his doggy sibling and he has even learned over time to walk off-lead. This is great progress for a hunting dog – he is intelligent and quick to learn. He also loves nothing more than sofa cuddles with his humans and walkies in the countryside.

Ziggy however, does have separation anxiety. He is a very needy dog and so will need somebody who can be at home most of the day with him, working with him until he feels confident to be left alone little by little. Another dog would be ideal, though human interaction is more important for Ziggy. Because of his SA, a country environment would be better as the stress of close neighbours isn’t workable. He can also occasionally be a little possessive of his things and would therefore need a child-free home.

Ziggy is currently taking Skullcap and Valerian supplements which he would need to continue taking while his problems are being worked through.

It’s impossible for us to explain everything about Ziggy in this post, so please do contact us for more information if you can help him. We are looking for a forever home for Ziggy, but would also consider an experienced foster who could work through his issues with him if that were a possibility.
